Obesity is one of the risk factors associated with heart disease, and studies have shown that obese adults who are convicted suffered damage to their heart organ.

In the new study, researchers examined the structure and function of the heart of 97 adolescents (32 lean adolescents among them, 33 other teenagers are overweight and 32 obese adolescents others) without symptoms of heart disease. The results showed, obesity in teens can cause damage to the heart through the heart muscle wall thickening and impaired cardiac function.

"Education about healthy eating and exercise is needed in schools to prevent obesity and cardiovascular disease in adolescents," said lead author Gani Bajraktari, professor of internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Pristina in Kosovo.

"This is an important step in preventing obesity and cardiovascular disease in adults," he added.

Further research is needed to determine whether cardiac damage in adolescent obesity can be cured if they do business or weight loss diet.
