Obesity is a risk factor for heart disease. Recent studies revealed that heart damage can occur in obese adolescents who have no symptoms of heart disease.
In the latest study, researchers examined the cardiac structure and function. The study took samples from 97 adolescents, of whom consisted of 32 lean adolescents, 33 adolescents were overweight, and 32 obese adolescents, all without symptoms of heart disease. The results showed that the heart wall thickness in obese adolescents make impaired cardiac function that could potentially be damaged.
The study is scheduled to be presented at the annual meeting of Serbia at the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology. "Education is a healthy diet and exercise is needed in schools to prevent obesity and cardiovascular disease in early adolescence," said lead author Professor Gani Bajraktari in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Pristina, Kosovo, also said early research is an important step in preventing obesity and cardiovascular disease in adults.
The investigators found, further research is needed to determine whether cardiac damage in adolescent obesity can be prevented if they lose weight badan.Karena this study were presented at a medical meeting, the data and conclusions should be viewed as the beginning to be published in the journal peerreview.
At least three of the four obese teens grow into obese adults that influence them to serious degenerative diseases (communicable diseases), such as arthritis, heart disease, stroke, and some forms of cancer. Although the disease usually does not attack until much later, other medical problems may emerge during adolescence for children who are obese and unhealthy.
In addition to cardiovascular disease, overweight adolescents are also vulnerable to some diseases. One of them is obstructive sleep apnea.Penyakit blockage of the upper respiratory tract is very disturbing normal breathing during sleep. (Tty)
