The
Camphor tree which belongs to the plant family Lauraceae, grows in subtropical countries, especially in east Asia. The three-nerved leaves are 5-12.5 cm. long and 2.5-5 cm. broad. They are arranged alternately on the stem and have long petioles. The tree produces a colourless, crystaline, translucent mass which is soluble in spirit and has a specific odour. Camphor is obtained by passing stem through the chipped wood. The distillate contains camphor which is separated and resublimed, leaving the essential oil of camphor.
